A Manifesto for Podcasters Who Mean It

We don't produce content.
We build sonic documents of human truth.

Lucid Pod Voice exists because we got tired of hearing brilliant people trapped inside mediocre audio. We are a podcast production studio in Scotland that starts with beliefs — not briefs. Every episode we touch carries the fingerprint of a set of non-negotiable principles. If that sounds intense, it should. Podcasting is intimate. It enters someone's ears while they walk, cook, and fall asleep. We refuse to treat that lightly.

Below is not a sales page. It's a declaration. Read it, and you'll know whether we're the right studio before a single email is exchanged.

The Seven Commitments

These are not marketing slogans. They are operational rules that govern every session, every edit, every master file we deliver.

I
Silence is a production tool, not a mistake.

We never fill pauses with music beds or sound effects to mask discomfort. If a guest hesitates before answering, that hesitation is part of the story.

II
Your voice already has a sound. We find it; we don't invent it.

We reject heavy processing that makes every host sound like the same FM announcer. Our EQ and compression choices serve your natural timbre, not a template.

III
Distribution without intention is noise pollution.

We won't push you to publish weekly if your content demands a fortnightly rhythm. Frequency follows substance.

IV
Listeners are not metrics. They are people choosing to spend time with you.

Analytics inform; they do not dictate. We will never ask you to chase trends that betray your subject.

V
The edit serves the conversation, not the editor's ego.

Cuts are invisible. Transitions are seamless. If a listener notices the editing, we've failed.

VI
Ownership stays with the creator. Always.

Your masters, your RSS feed, your intellectual property. We hold nothing hostage.

VII
Honesty over flattery.

If an episode isn't ready, we'll tell you. If a concept needs reworking, we'll say so. Our job is to protect your reputation, not to agree with everything.

"We partnered with Lucid Pod Voice for our investigative series. They pushed back on our initial structure — politely, firmly — and the result was a show that actually held listeners past episode three. That's rare."

— Rena Whitford, Executive Producer, The Tidal Line

Production Roadmap

We don't list services in a grid. Instead, here is the actual sequence of decisions we walk through with every client — from first conversation to published episode.

Phase What Happens Your Decision Point
Discovery Call A 30-minute conversation about your subject, audience, and ambitions. No pitching. Decide if our principles align with your vision.
Concept Architecture We draft a show blueprint: episode arc, tonal direction, format options, naming strategy. Approve the blueprint or request a rethink — no charge for revisions at this stage.
Pilot Production Record and produce one full episode to establish sonic identity, pacing, and edit style. Evaluate the pilot. If it doesn't feel right, we rebuild. No sunk-cost pressure.
Series Build Batch recording sessions, detailed editing, mastering, show notes, transcription, metadata. Choose your release cadence and approve each episode before it goes live.
Launch & Distribution RSS setup, platform submission (Apple, Spotify, Amazon, and beyond), launch day coordination. Own your feed from day one. We set it up under your account.
Ongoing Support Monthly production cycles, listener analytics review, quarterly format check-ins. Continue, pause, or evolve — the relationship flexes to your needs.

Built for the Long Arc

Our studio is designed for sustained creative work — not one-off recordings that disappear after launch week.

Voices We've Shaped

We don't collect testimonials. We collect outcomes. Here are three shows that started as uncertain ideas and became established voices in their fields.

Grain & Gavel Agriculture Law

A solicitor in Aberdeen wanted to explain land reform to farmers who didn't read legal journals. We built a conversational format with short episodes (14 minutes average) and plain language. After 26 episodes, the Scottish Land Commission cited the show in a public consultation document.

Thread Count Textile Design

A weaver in Dundee wanted to document disappearing techniques. We designed a hybrid format — half interview, half ambient field recording from mills and workshops. The show now has listeners in 19 countries and a partnership with a heritage trust.

Midnight Rounds Emergency Medicine

Two A&E consultants wanted a debrief format for clinical cases. We ensured patient anonymisation protocols were baked into the production workflow — not an afterthought. The podcast is now used as supplementary material in two postgraduate programmes.

Fit Check

Not every project is right for us, and we're not right for every project. This is an honest guide.

We're a good fit if…

  • ✓ You have a genuine subject you care about
  • ✓ You're willing to invest in a pilot before committing
  • ✓ You value editorial integrity over download counts
  • ✓ You want to own your content and distribution

We're not a good fit if…

  • ✗ You need a podcast launched in under two weeks
  • ✗ Your primary goal is influencer-style brand deals
  • ✗ You want us to script every word for you
  • ✗ You're looking for the cheapest option available

Frequently Raised Concerns

Do I need my own equipment? +

No. We can supply recording kits for remote sessions or host you in our studio. If you already have gear, we'll assess it and advise on any upgrades worth making.

How much does a typical engagement cost? +

There is no typical engagement. A discovery call and concept architecture phase costs nothing. Pilot production starts from £650. Ongoing series production is scoped per project. We quote after understanding your needs, not before.

Can you work with clients outside Scotland? +

Yes. We produce shows for clients across the UK and internationally. Remote recording workflows are a core part of our production capability, not an afterthought.

What if I want to leave after a few episodes? +

You leave with everything: masters, artwork, RSS feed, show notes, transcripts. There is no lock-in. Commitment VI exists for a reason.

Post-production is where trust is earned. Every cut, every level adjustment, every fade is a choice that either respects the speaker or distorts them. We take that seriously.
